Curious Cat Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Connections
VoIP is providing choice to consumers looking for telephone options other than local phone monopolies. Since VoIP has been offered customers are choosing to leave traditional phone options for cheaper VOIP options. The only significant drawbacks appear to be that VoIP is dependant on an existing high speed internet connection and those connections are still less reliable than old land line phone lines. In addition, 911 service does not always work, though some VoIP providers to allow for 911 type service. VoIP providers also often include features that old local phone companies charged high fees for such as caller ID, call waiting, voice mail on the network, etc. VoIP can work with the phones customers already have, if the provider (Vonage for example) equipment allows it.
